How does the Shopify Plan Calculator work?

1. Enter your monthly revenue and average order value

The calculator automatically computes your monthly order count. This determines how many transactions incur fees.

2. Set your card payment percentage

Shopify transaction fees only apply to card payments. COD and bank transfer orders are fee-free. In Hungary, the average card payment rate is 60-70%.

3. Choose your settings

Select whether you use Shopify Payments (if not, an extra surcharge applies), and monthly vs yearly billing (~25% discount).

Frequently asked questions

Which Shopify plan is cheapest for Hungarian stores?

It depends on your monthly revenue and card payment percentage. At low volumes, Basic is cheapest because its €27/month subscription outweighs the slightly higher 1.5% card rate. At higher volumes, the lower transaction rates of Grow (1.4%) or Advanced (1.3%) offset the more expensive subscription — enter your numbers above to find your breakeven.

How does card payment percentage affect Shopify costs?

The higher your card payment percentage, the more you pay in transaction fees — because Shopify charges a per-transaction rate plus 85 Ft per card order. If 80% of your revenue is card payments vs. 50%, the total fee difference between plans grows significantly, making upgrades worthwhile at lower revenue thresholds.

What is the Shopify third-party surcharge?

If you use a third-party payment provider (e.g., Barion, SimplePay, Stripe) instead of Shopify Payments, Shopify charges an additional surcharge on every card transaction: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, and 0.6% on Advanced. Switching to Shopify Payments eliminates this surcharge entirely, which can save tens of thousands of Forints per month.

Is yearly Shopify billing worth it?

Yearly billing reduces the subscription cost by approximately 25% (e.g., Basic drops from €27 to €19/month). This lowers the breakeven point where upgrading becomes worthwhile. If your monthly revenue is stable and predictable, yearly billing almost always pays for itself within the first few months.

When should I upgrade from Basic to Grow or Advanced?

Use the calculator above for your exact breakeven point. As a rough guide with Shopify Payments: Grow becomes cheaper when your monthly card revenue exceeds approximately 21M Ft. With third-party providers the savings are much larger, so the upgrade pays off at lower revenue — around 2-3M Ft card revenue for Basic to Grow.
